Underwood Family Farms a Delightful Distraction

There might be undiscovered jewels to visit close to your home. A new delightful distraction I recently discovered is a farm playground just 25 minutes from where I live.

Underwood Family Farms

The farms are located in Moorpark – Ventura County. My sister-in-law mentioned it a couple of times over the years, but we never really took it seriously. Finally, in October 2017, I visited and, quite frankly, was blown away. My camera was warm from constant snaps of the views and activities here.
At Underwood Family Farms we enjoyed a farm experience and more.

  • Playgrounds
  • Petting Zoo
  • Pony Rides
  • Mini Electric Tractor
  • Little Train Ride
  • Tractor Ride to You Pick areas
  • Lots of vegetables and fruits to pick
  • Shaded area with trees planted abundantly
  • Free plentiful parking

The farm has a fresh produce store too. We stocked on some fresh vegetables before heading out after a genuinely full day of fun.

October is probably the best time to visit with the corn maze, acres of assorted pumpkins, and darling scarecrow figures everywhere.  The corn maze is a bit of a challenge, as you can see in this fun video:

Since my first visit, I’ve been back twice more. I am looking forward to going again later this month, September, to bask in the autumn harvest feel they provide.

About an hour up the road is yet another underwood family farm. Much, much smaller in scale, but a nice visit. There are goats, alpacas and sheep you can feed for a quarter a pop. Their farm store is stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables. Lots of jars of jams and honey. Of course, like the more massive farm, you can pick your own fruits.

 

 

Delightful Distractions Close to Home

These locations have been around for decades. I’ve lived within 30-60 minutes from them all my life. But I did not discover them until the last few years.

Inspired by these gems so close by, I did a Google search for additional farm-type locations that might be close by. And by gosh, there are. One, in fact, we are visiting today in Sylmar, California.

If you are looking for a new adventure without having to travel far, try Google searching attractions within your area code. You may be surprised at what you’ve been missing close to home.
