In Shelburne, Vermont, the arrival of fall is announced not by leaves, but by the Leaf People – fashionably dressed scarecrows!
One of the wonders of my life is Vermont. As a native of sunny California, I longed to one day see a New England Fall. In my late 30’s I met the man I married. A Vermonter. Thus began the annual trips to Vermont – usually during the autumn season. The visits began in 1990 and continued until 2017. We took a break in 2018, and returned, again, in 2019. While the visits may no longer be annually, the fond memories of this beautiful state are eternally etched in my memory.
Really, Linnaea. Scarecrows?
What are Leaf people? Delightfully well-dressed scarecrows placed close to the Route 7 streets in Shelburne. Created by a resident Grace Pinney, these fall fixtures, dressed in what appears to be clothing and accessories from a thrift shop, greet leaf peepers from all over.
Shelburne is among my favorite places to visit when I do visit Vermont. So much to see and enjoy! Places that star in several of my Delightful Distraction videos, and more to come:
- Shelburne Farms
- The Vermont Teddy Bear Factory
- The Shelburne Museum
- The Shelburne Country Store
- The Christmas Loft
Oh boy, I need to get busy to create more videos of the attractions in Shelburne. In the meantime, enjoy The Leaf People delightful distraction video.
